Established in response to the horrific events of September 11, 2001, and the ongoing persecution of women in Afghanistan, Lifting the Veil has become an annual event co-produced by Curvd Aire, California State University, Sacramento, and other local musicians, artists, poets and dancers in the community.

The first two festivals raised money to support the Afghan Women's Mission, an organization which established and sustained schools for Afghan women. Under the Taliban, women and girls were forbidden to attend school, and this seemed a crucial program to support.

In 2004, Lifting the Veil turned its support to WEAVE (Women Escaping a Violent Environment), the organization which has worked wonders in supporting and protecting abused women in the Sacramento area.

We invite musicians, artists, dancers, poets, and any other citizens to join us in this ongoing project. We are actively seeking performers, sponsors, and other participants for the series of concerts and festivals.
