United States on the issues of education and violations of human rights
particularly against women in Afghanistan and the Middle East.
(4) To publicize the fact that only education will help bring about
the needed changes.
(5) To assist in bringing educational programs to those who need

Description of the Festival:
A festival of music and the performing and visual arts, organized and presented
to benefit educational programs for women (and children) in Afghanistan.
Musicians, artists, writers, dancers, poets, and other performing artists
will come together to perform and educate audiences. In addition, key individuals
will speak about their efforts toward these ends.
The proceeds from the performances and festival sponsorships will go to
fund education programs. Multiple revenue streams will be developed in order
to ensure that the proceeds will be targeted properly and will actually
reach the intended recipients.
The big day will be May 11th, 2002. However, any event or performance
in the week from May 5th to May 11th may be given the opportunity to join
the festival by donating part or all proceeds to the festival fund, and
by cooperatively marketing their event with the festival.
